this stuff may not all be new, but i like it. you might like it too.
If you haven’t heard Surfer Blood’s 2009 LP Astro Coast, and you have any kind of tendency towards the warm summery Florida indie sound that has seemed to be getting a footing of late, change that right now. These kids have put together something good, that’s for sure.
I first heard them on a playlist my friend Adam had put together… I believe it was on the road trip to Sasquatch Festival. Loved it. Just a few months back, Adam, Dana, Zac and I went to see Surfer Blood at the Biltmore in Vancouver with The Drums (Brooklyn, NY). The show was pretty excellent. If you get a chance to catch these guys on their way through your neighbourhood, get out and see them.
Pitchfork actually nominated their single “Swim” as the 37th on the Pitchfork “Best Songs of 2009” list. Not bad fellas. Not bad at all. I’m posting the video for it. I prefer the track “Floating Vibes” though, and I’m also giving you a live cut of them in studioperforming it for KEXP. Dig it.
